UserVoice pioneered the feature request voting board and was instrumental in bringing our industry closer to being truly customer-centric.

Props to UserVoice.

But as massive as they are in the feedback space, their product isn’t all that… special. It’s essentially just a customer voting board. Yes, UserVoice is able to segment feedback data based on customer attributes. We think that’s really important and a great feature.

But there are a lot of drawbacks to UserVoice.

It can be clumsy to use. Its interface needs a facelift. It has very few native integrations, and it’s not easy for your customer-facing teams to put in feedback from the communication tools they use. It doesn’t let you easily “close the loop” with customers and tell them when you’ve built what they requested. And its design probably biases your users’ feedback.

But most of all, it’s really expensive. While they don’t post their prices publicly, our private detective work has found that UserVoice pricing runs around $499 for a single product manager seat or $999 for five seats—almost $12,000 a year.

That might be acceptable to Microsoft, but most other software companies need to think twice about justifying that price. (And actually, even Microsoft is getting out of UserVoice).
